Exceptional Georgian Mahogany Sideboard Attributed to David Morley, C.1835

19th century
Description

This exceptional Georgian mahogany sideboard is attributed to David Morley of Carmarthen, a noted Welsh cabinet maker active in the early 19th century, and dates to approximately 1835.

Constructed from finely selected mahogany timbers, the piece displays a beautifully warm colour and confident grain, enhanced by crisp ebony string inlay framing the cupboard doors and drawer fronts. The layout is both practical and elegant, featuring a central drawer flanked by a cupboard and a deep drawer, with the original bottle drawer retained - a desirable survival.

The sideboard stands on slender turned legs, giving it lightness and architectural balance, firmly rooted in the late Georgian tradition and moving toward early William IV restraint.

This is a versatile piece, suitable as a dining room sideboard, serving table, or statement hall furniture in a quality period interior.

Condition:

Very good antique condition throughout, with light historic marks consistent with age and use. Structurally sound, clean, and ready to place.
