Pretty Small William IV Sideboard C1830

£495    $672    €567
This is a lovely William IV period sideboard, crafted from flame mahogany and crossbanded, around 1830.

This era was a transitional period where the light, delicate lines of the Regency style began to evolve into the more substantial, rounded forms of the early Victorian era.

It has a particularly desirable small size, which is rare for sideboards of this period.

The lower central drawer featuring a platform (often a ''pull-out'' or ''slide'') was designed to provide extra surface area.

The two deep drawers are cellarettes, unlined. In the 1830s, specifically to hold bottles of wine and spirits, keeping them upright.

There is some repaired cracks on the top and to one side.

Small cracks on the top and sides are very common in furniture of this age. They are usually ''shrinkage cracks,'' caused by the wood drying out.

124.5cm wide x 55cm deep x 109cm high
