Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Church pews became standard church fittings during the late medieval and Reformation periods to accommodate seated congregations during extended services. By the 19th century, Victorian furniture makers produced standardised wooden pews, often utilising local timber such as pine or pitch pine with Gothic Revival architectural elements.

Traditional pews were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods like oak or resinous softwoods like pine and pitch pine due to their durability and straight grain. Construction relied on heavy mortise and tenon joinery, tongue-and-groove planking for backrests, and thick wooden end panels designed to support heavy daily use.

Authentic period pews feature distinctive hand-cut or early machine joinery, natural timber shrinkage around pegged joints, and wear along the seating rail. Look for architectural detailing on the bench ends, such as carved finials or book rests, as well as original mounting marks along the base where they were secured to church flooring.

Architectural pews are frequently positioned in hallways, boot rooms, or entryways to serve as narrow bench seating without encroaching on floor space. Designers often balance the structured timber aesthetic with upholstered seat cushions, natural fibre rugs, and modern art on the adjacent wall.

Preserve the natural timber patina by regularly dusting with a soft cloth and applying a neutral beeswax polish along the grain once or twice a year. Avoid placing soft pine furniture in close proximity to direct heat sources or damp environments to prevent wood warping and split seams.
