FAQs

Victorian landscape paintings often celebrated the natural beauty of the British countryside, reflecting a romanticised view of pastoral life and topographical scenery popular during the 19th century.

These works were typically created using oil paints applied to stretched woven canvas, housed within intricately moulded and gilded wooden frames often finished with gesso.

Authentication involves examining the canvas weave, inspecting the composition for period-accurate pigments, checking for artist signatures or inscriptions, and evaluating the age and construction of the frame.

Pairing a heavily framed antique oil painting with contemporary minimalist furniture creates a striking focal point, allowing the historical piece to add warmth, texture, and contrast to clean lines.

Keep paintings out of direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading, maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, and consult a professional conservator for periodic cleaning of the canvas and frame.
