Subject:
Jonathan Battishill (1738–1801), distinguished English composer, organist, and singer, best known for his church music and oratorios. He served as organist of Christ Church, Newgate Street, St. Clement’s Eastcheap, and formerly of St. Paul’s Cathedral.
This finely executed copper engraving was issued shortly after his death and remains a superb period likeness of one of Georgian England’s most respected musicians.
