Harrington Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
John Falconar Slater was Newcastle born and a master of the impressionist seascape.
A newspaper article of 1898 dubbed him 'The Weatherproof Artist'.

This work depicts a shore line to the lower right with the water glistening in the moonlight. To the central left, there is a lone figure walking by a house with a single lit window. The whole scene is illuminated by a moonlit sky with atmospheric clouds. The work is housed in a gilt frame.

The work has some light craquelure in areas. Note the artist signature is clearer when viewed under a bright light with a loupe, but the distinctive 'S' of the 'Slater' is clearly evident to the naked eye. The frame has various knocks and scuffs but generally displays well.

A striking work of large proportions by one Britain's leading impressionists of the time.
