Description

Here’s a very attractive Victorian pine chest of drawers, retaining its original white porcelain knobs — though these can be replaced with wooden ones if you prefer. The piece stands on small, dainty bun feet and is in excellent condition for its age.

All the drawers run smoothly. When wax-finishing similar pieces, I always apply wax along the sides and edges of the drawers to ensure they slide perfectly — but even as it stands, they work very well. One drawer may need a slight adjustment, though overall, everything functions nicely. The two small top drawers are especially handy for smaller items.

Available for £560 as it is, or £627 if you’d like it waxed.

Dimensions: max height 43", surface height 31.5", width 41", depth 20.5" (approximately 109 cm x 80 cm x 104 cm x 52 cm).

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian pine furniture gained immense popularity during the 19th century as a practical, sturdy, and accessible alternative to expensive hardwoods like mahogany and oak, often utilised in domestic settings and farmhouse interiors.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid yellow or red pine, featuring traditional joinery such as dovetail joints on the drawer boxes, backboards fixed with hand-cut nails or screws, and frequently fitted with ceramic or turned wooden knobs.

Authenticity is identified through construction hallmarks such as hand-cut dovetails, tool marks on the timber, historical timber shrinkage, hand-forged or early machine-made fixings, and natural patination accumulated over decades of use.

A traditional pine chest of drawers can ground a contemporary room by introducing warmth and tactile grain texture, pairing effectively with minimalist walls, neutral textiles, and modern lighting to create an eclectic balance.

Preserve antique pine by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping or cracking, dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, and occasionally nourishing the wood with traditional beeswax.
