Prometheus Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The sitter is wearing the most beautiful blue dress adorned with flowers, which are also in her powdered hairstyle. The portrait is not signed though this is not unusual for this period. The work as would be expected for the age and size has had some restoration which I think would probably have been done at the beginning of the twentieth century and actually really holds up after all the years. The gilt frame is the original and made of oak. The whole has a wonderful period look and is ready to hang. C.1790.
