Robert Houston (Scottish, 1891–1942)

A listed Scottish painter associated with the Impressionist and Modern British schools, Robert Houston is best known for his atmospheric landscapes and coastal views of the west of Scotland. His works have been exhibited at The Fine Art Society, Edinburgh, and appear in numerous private and institutional collections. Houston’s works have achieved strong auction results, with realised prices ranging from £10 to over £6,500, depending on subject and scale. His record sale stands at £6,500 (Bonhams Edinburgh, 2011) for Afternoon Sunshine, Firth of Clyde.

This smaller, intimate work embodies Houston’s naturalistic palette and tonal restraint, typical of his 1930s Highland period.

Depiction or Location: A serene Highland study of Loch Lubnaig, near Callander in the Trossachs.
