This remarkable miniature Chinese/Cantonese carved hardwood and gold leaf figure group depicts a group of five scholars, two holding a large object, with the other three watching and examining whilst standing under pine trees on rocky ground. This beautiful, fine hand carved figure group has a superb three-dimensional quality. The artist carver has used great skill in creating the depth of different layers with figures standing behind the front group all perfectly carved with fine detailing and finished with red lacquer and gold leaf.
