Late Qing dynasty pedestals and plant stands were designed primarily for displaying bonsai trees, ceramics, and bronze vessels. They feature structured geometric silhouettes, carved aprons, floating panel tops, and lower tiers or shelves for added stability and utility.

Dense tropical hardwoods such as hongmu, zitan, and chicken-wing wood (jichimu) were predominantly utilised. These dense woods allowed craftsmen to execute intricate relief carving and precise mortise-and-tenon joinery without relying on nails or glue.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display traditional joinery techniques, subtle hand-carving irregularities, and a natural surface patina developed over time. The substantial weight of the dense hardwood and original wear marks on the lower stretchers and feet also indicate age.
