Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grand Tour bronzes originated during the 17th to 19th centuries when wealthy European aristocrats travelled across Italy and Greece to study classical art. Local artisans produced small-scale bronze reproductions of famous ancient statues as souvenirs for travellers to bring back home.

These sculptures were primarily cast in bronze using the lost-wax (cire perdue) process or sand casting methods. The finished metal was then hand-chased to refine surface details and coated with chemical patinas to achieve dark, rich tones.

Authentic period bronzes exhibit crisp hand-chased details, uneven casting thickness on the interior, and natural patination wear where hands frequently touched the object. Search for maker foundry marks, sharp anatomical definition, and heavy weight relative to size.

Classical bronze statues integrate well into contemporary spaces by adding texture and historical contrast. Place the sculpture atop a fireplace mantelpiece, position it within a curated bookshelf display, or style it on an office desk alongside leather-bound books.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush. To preserve the original patina, apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax once a year, gently buffing it with a soft cloth while avoiding harsh liquid cleaners.
