FAQs

Nineteenth-century Sicilian school paintings often reflect a blend of traditional religious iconography and romantic realism, drawing heavily on regional heritage and ecclesiastical patronage.

These works were typically executed in oil paint applied to a prepared wooden panel, frequently utilizing gesso grounds and intricate hand-carved or gilded backgrounds.

Authenticity is determined by examining the wood grain, natural crackelure in the oil layer, traditional preparation grounds, and stylistic indicators consistent with the period.

Such pieces create a striking focal point when hung against dark, moody wall colours or placed on a mantelpiece to introduce historical depth and character to modern spaces.

Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, avoid direct sunlight to protect the pigments, and consult a professional conservator for cleaning or structural repairs.
