Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Marine art emerged as a distinct genre in seventeenth-century Dutch painting, capturing maritime trade, naval encounters, and seafaring vessels. The tradition expanded through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, documenting historical clippers and steamships amidst realistic ocean environments.

Traditional marine paintings feature oil-based pigments applied to stretched linen or cotton canvas. Frames are commonly constructed from carved or moulded wood, frequently finished with neutral tones, painted liners, or gilt slips to complement the atmospheric palette.

Authenticity is verified by examining brushwork texture, paint layering, canvas aging on the reverse, and artist signatures near the lower corners. Natural craquelure and age-related oxidation on wooden stretcher bars also indicate original mid-century or period production.

A horizontal marine canvas functions well above a console table, sideboard, or fireplace mantel. It pairs effectively with deep blues, neutral linen upholstery, dark wood joinery, and tailored brass accents in contemporary or traditional schemes.

Dust the surface lightly using a clean, soft, dry artist brush or microfibre cloth without applying pressure. Avoid using liquid cleaners, water, or commercial polishes, and display the artwork away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity.
