Jack Merriott RI,RSMA 1901-1968.Painter,poster designer, illustrator and teacher.Studied at Croydon School of Art and St Martins School of Art.He was a member of the Wapping Group of Artists,of which for a time he was vice president; Croydon Art Society; Langham Sketch Club and St Ives Society of Artists.Exhibited RA,ROI,RI,RWA, and RBA.Bradford City Art Gallery and Sunderland Museum and Art Gallery hold his work which is characterised by a breezy freshness,crisp with well controlled colour.Lived at Polperro,Cornwall, an area he often painted. ‘ The Bell Foundry ‘ signed watercolour, image size 38x53 cms,framed size 64.5 x77.5 cms ; provenance Evening News Exhibtion ( label verso)
