The Chelsea Bijouterie Ltd has dated this piece to the 1870s.
The painting is presented in a period frame under glass and remains in excellent condition, with only minor discolouration and the possibility of slight fading to the colours, entirely consistent with its age.

About the Artist – Herbert Menzies Marshall (1841–1913)
He exhibited widely, becoming Vice-President of the Royal Society of Painters in Water-Colours and a member of both the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers and the Royal Institute of Painters in Oils. His career included regular exhibitions at major London galleries, and his work was recognised internationally with a silver medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris.
By 1904, Marshall was Professor of Landscape Painting at Queen’s College, London. His paintings are admired for their accuracy, compositional strength, and the subtle atmosphere he brought to both rural and architectural subjects.
