As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this rare and unusual Meiji Period (1868-1912) bronze Okimono of a standing giraffe, this majestic beast sculptured in fine detail by the prolific animalia caster of the late 19th century, Genryusai Seiya. The bronze itself has been very cleverley patinated in a dark shakudo alloy that has been etched back to create the natural appearance of a giraffes coat, its charming facial features captured in lifelike detail. Although known to exist, examples of Japanese bronze giraffe are very scarce and rarely seen on the market.
