Large Victorian Watercolour of the Ruins of Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds

A fine and large watercolour of the Ruins of Kirkstall Abbey in Leeds. The view is a classic scene of the Cistercian Abbey superbly observed and drawn with figures at the door for scale. The condition of the work is excellent with the colours bright and true. The painting is signed to the lower right ‘S.Parrot’ an unrecorded artist who is likely to have been a talented amateur artist and perhaps an architect due to the technical quality of the observation of the building. The work is framed in the original fine quality Gothic Revival gilt frame. The painting has been recently remounted in the original frame. The whole is a wonderfully decorative work that is ready to hang. C.1870.
