Still Life Oil Painting of Ceramics

An interesting and decorative oil on canvas still life of ceramics. The work shows an assemblage of stoneware with a hanging flagon, a jug with applied decoration and an art pottery bowl. The painting is beautifully handled in great detail and is an exploration of shadow, tone and texture. The work is signed ‘W.Garratt’ who is not recorded and I think it is most likely this is an art school piece. The painting is in good condition, it has been professionally lined with minor touching in. The gilt frame is likely the original, works very well with the piece and has a worn antique finish. The whole is a great decorative work that is ready to hang. C.1900.
