FAQs

The English School encompasses a diverse range of painting styles developed in England from the 16th century onwards, frequently focusing on portraiture, landscape, and romantic genre scenes with rich narrative elements.

Traditional oil portraits were typically painted using finely ground pigment suspended in linseed or walnut oil on stretched linen canvas, housed within hand-carved and gilded wooden frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining canvas weave, craquelure patterns in the oil layer, stretcher frame construction, artist signatures, and pigment analysis under ultraviolet light.

Pairing a traditional gilt-framed canvas with minimalist modern furnishings creates a striking juxtaposition, adding depth, historic character, and a sophisticated focal point to the room.

Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, keep the artwork away from direct sunlight to prevent fading, and clean the surface gently using a soft, dry brush without chemical solvents.
