Spode blue and white transferware refers to ceramic items produced by the Spode factory in Stoke-on-Trent, featuring designs transferred from engraved copper plates onto pottery, a technique perfected in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

These pieces were typically crafted using refined earthenware or stone china, finished with an opaque tin or lead glaze and decorated with cobalt blue oxide pigments.

Authentic pieces often feature impressed makers marks, characteristic transfer-printed patterns, crazing in the glaze consistent with age, and weight and feel typical of historical earthenware bodies.

An antique jug can be used as a standalone sculptural object on a shelf or sideboard, or utilized functionally as a vase for fresh or dried botanicals to add historical contrast to contemporary spaces.

Clean antique ceramics gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh scrubbing, soaking, or abrasive chemicals to protect the fragile glaze and historical surface.
