We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Victorian landscape paintings often celebrated the natural world, capturing romanticised rural scenes, dramatic weather, and pastoral tranquility with careful attention to light and detail.

Frames from this era were typically constructed from carved wood or composition ornament over plaster, finished with gold leaf or metallic gilt paint to create an opulent appearance.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the ageing of the materials, hand-carved details on the frame, the type of glass used, and construction methods on the reverse of the panel or stretcher.

Pairing traditional gilt-framed art with modern or minimalist furniture creates a striking focal point, adding texture, history, and warmth to a neutral wall.

Keep paintings away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent fading and warping, and gently dust the frame using a soft, dry brush without chemical cleaners.
