Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Designed during the 19th century for residential entryways, a Victorian mahogany hall stand served as a dedicated storage piece for coats, hats, walking sticks, and umbrellas, frequently incorporating a central mirror and a small glove drawer.

These pieces were crafted predominantly from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine, featuring hand-turned wooden pegs, carved scrollwork, and removable cast iron or zinc drip trays fitted into the base to collect water.

Authentic 19th-century hall stands typically display hand-cut dovetail joinery on small drawers, silvered glass mirrors showing natural age spots, original dark cast metal drip pans, and carved detailing consistent with Victorian design.

Position the piece in a spacious hallway or entrance vestibule as a functional storage element, offsetting the dark timber finish with neutral wall paints or contemporary light fixtures.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry cloth, apply natural beeswax along the grain periodically to preserve the finish, and immediately wipe clean any moisture left by wet umbrellas or coats.
