This Asian decorative art sculpture depicts a stylised rooster carved from pale green hardstone with translucent orange-tinted edges. The work dates from around 1900 and shows artisanal craftsmanship with a smooth polished finish that catches the light against the dark background. Notable visual details include a prominent comb on the head, incised linear feather markings along the wings and body, and a sturdy integral carved base that supports the standing bird. The piece measures 8 cm high by 9 cm wide in practical terms. This decorative object suits display in a home setting upon a bookshelf or desk within a maximalist wonderland design scheme, where the natural stone tones and minimalist avian silhouette add texture and visual interest to an interior surface. The sculpture presents a clean profile with well-defined contours and traditional motifs characteristic of Asian stone carving traditions from the period.

FAQs

In traditional Asian iconography, particularly within Chinese culture, the rooster is a symbol of punctuality, fidelity, and protection, often rendered in jade to signify longevity and high moral standing.

Craftsmen utilize nephrite or jadeite stone, shaping the material with rotary tools, diamond abrasives, and hand-polishing techniques to achieve defined relief work and a soft lustre.

Genuine jade remains cold to the touch, features high density and toughness, and resists scratches from standard steel blades, unlike soft soapstone or glass imitations.

Small carved stone figures are typically arranged on mantelpieces, accent tables, or within curated bookshelf displays to add texture and organic color contrast.

Jade pieces should be wiped with a soft microfibre cloth dampened with warm, mild soapy water, avoiding steam cleaners, harsh chemicals, or sudden thermal shocks.
