Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Roman glass paste bust is a moulded sculptural portrait crafted from glass paste, also known as pate de verre. This material was used in classical antiquity and subsequent revival periods to reproduce detailed portraits of emperors and nobility on a small scale.

Glass paste objects were created by pressing powdered glass mixed with metallic oxides and fluxes into refractory moulds. Once heated until fused, the glass formed a dense, opaque material that could mimic carved stone, terracotta, or gemstones.

Authentic pieces often exhibit devitrification, surface weathering, mould seams, and micro-fractures consistent with age. Examination under magnification typically reveals air bubbles within the glass matrix and hand-finishing details along the portrait edges.

A classical glass bust can be placed on a dark wooden bookshelf, a mantelpiece, or within a glass display cabinet to capture light. Pairing it with brass accents or leather-bound books highlights its architectural form and classical provenance.

Glass paste items should be kept in a climate-controlled environment away from sudden temperature fluctuations. Dust gently using a soft microfibre cloth or dry brush, avoiding water, chemical detergents, or abrasive polishes that could damage the weathered surface.
