Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century mahogany chest of drawers typically features a solid or veneered mahogany body, a standard drawer configuration such as two short drawers over three long drawers, hand-dovetailed joints, and decorative elements like bracket feet or turned brass hardware.

These chests were constructed primarily using mahogany timber, often combined with secondary woods like pine or oak for drawer linings. Construction relied on hand-cut dovetail joints, cockbeaded drawer edges, and solid brass drop handles or decorative escutcheons.

Authentic period pieces display irregular hand-cut dovetails, uneven drawer bottoms, hand-planed back panels, and natural wear patterns around handles and feet. The brass hardware should exhibit mild surface patination or oxidisation consistent with age.

An antique chest can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing it with minimalist lighting, contemporary artwork overhead, or simplified ceramic accessories to balance the rich wood tones.

Preservation requires regular dusting with a soft cloth and periodic application of beeswax polish along the wood grain. The piece should be positioned away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent timber cracking or veneer lifting.
