The style suggests a Romantic or Dutch-inspired landscape, likely from the late 18th to early 19th century. The presence of figures, detailed cliffs, and ships in the distance could indicate a European school, possibly British or Dutch. The crackle pattern (craquelure) on the surface suggests authentic age, likely over 100 years old. It is painted on a wood panel, which was commonly used before canvas became dominant.
