Prometheus Antiques has dated this piece to the 1900s.
The technique is very much impressionist with broad brushstrokes of bold colour and was probably painted plein air. The work is signed to the lower left for Lionel Duval who was working in Canada at the beginning of the twentieth century painting mostly scenes of everyday life particularly around forestry. The painting is in excellent untouched condition. The gilt frame is the original and in good condition, it also retains the original Toronto gallery label. The whole is a great example of landscape art from the beginning of the twentieth century and particularly unusual with the Canadian subject. C.1900.
