An early 18th Century oil on canvas laid on later board and surviving from c1725.
Mounted in period giltwood Frame. This lovely Country house portrait is of an unknown gentleman sitting proudly in his peruke wig.
The gentleman was very well off , to possess a peruke in today''s money would cost around £5000 , ensuring only nobility and the upper class were the only ones able to wear them.
No signature or description of the gentleman is present so a bit of a mystery.
Painted with quite some prowess , dark and moody as is or could be cleaned professionally to enhance the colours of the oil.
