FAQs

Middle Eastern and North African tray tables evolved from nomadic traditions where families required portable furnishings, frequently incorporating removable metal trays paired with collapsible wooden stands for ease of transport.

Authentic pieces typically combine hardwoods such as teak, walnut, or shesham for the structural base, paired with hand-beaten brass or copper for the removable serving tray.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-engraved or hammered detailing on the metal tray, hand-carved joints on the wooden frame, natural patina, and traditional construction methods lacking modern machine fasteners.

These versatile pieces serve effectively as low coffee tables or accent pieces, providing textural contrast against contemporary upholstery while grounding eclectic or bohemian schemes.

Maintain the wood with occasional natural wax applications and clean the metal gently with a soft dry cloth, avoiding abrasive polishes that might strip the historic patina.
