Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large Indian coffee table dates from around 1900 in the Anglo-Indian style. The construction combines a gold-coloured brass tray top with a dark brown carved hardwood base, showing fine turned legs, fretwork stretchers and rope twist patterned edges. The piece incorporates a fourteen-lobed central recess surrounded by dense repoussé floral engraving and a dimpled ground. The removable top rests on a sturdy collapsible-style folding support measuring 56 cm high by 122 cm wide and 122 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this table functions as a striking low coffee table for a living room or reception space, offering a wide surface for books, drinks and decorative objects. The intricate metalwork and detailed woodwork introduce texture and global character to eclectic or boho interior schemes. The clean condition makes it ready for immediate placement in domestic interiors.

FAQs

Anglo-Indian brass tray tables originated in northern and western India during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Crafted primarily for British colonial residents and export markets, they combined traditional Indian metalwork and woodcarving with Western functional forms such as tea and coffee tables.

These tables typically feature a circular brass top decorated through chasing, repousse, or engraving techniques. The supporting base is usually crafted from regional hardwoods such as teak, rosewood, or shisham, often detailed with intricate hand carving or turned legs.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-hammered and hand-engraved metalwork with slight natural irregularities in the patterning. Look for hand-turned wooden components, traditional mortise and tenon or folding joints, and genuine surface patination or oxidisation on both the brass and timber.

A large brass tray table functions as a central coffee table in living areas, adding texture and warmth to contemporary settings. The combination of reflective metal and dark wood contrasts effectively against neutral upholstered furniture, hardwood floors, or natural fibre rugs.

Dust the brass surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip the aged patina. Preserve the wooden base by dusting along the grain and applying a natural beeswax polish occasionally to prevent the timber from drying.
