Subject handsome quarter length portrait front side on view of a much loved treasured Pedigree prized pet of Landseer''s famous studio dog who''s name was Odin, with beautiful hue colours the dogs coat being brown with a white streak along his nose ridge line, black nose along with black and gold collar. He is wearing his collar & is looking intently towards the right.
A great display size with the frame being 80 cm high and 80 cm wide.

Odin Mastiff Bloodhound is the name of the known historic bloodhound dog depicted in a work first produced by English artist Sir Edwin Landseer (1802-1873). This composition is a variation of Landseer’s 1836 work which is currently held in the Royal Trust collection, the dog was one of Landseer’s early animal companions in his studio & watched while he painted.
Biography of the artist William Mitchell of Maryport was a known British school 19th Century artist 1823-1900). William is buried in Maryport cemetery in Maryport, Cumbria. The known gallery, key galleries and museums like Somerset House have featured William Mitchell of Maryport''s works in the past. His paintings have been sold at auctions around the world, the highest sold price was 11,485 US Dollars, this was for the Launch of the Collingwood from Kelsick yard Maryport at Bonhams Knightsbridge. Offered in fine used condition.
There is some tension loss to the canvas and an old repair patch verso. The paint surface has surface level craquelure throughout with some paint flake losses to the top of the painting also some scuffs scratches to the dogs face in some places. With paint touch ups to the background area on the far left side and to the background above the dogs head, there are cracks to the frame mount with general wear and some losses to the frame also some repairs commensurate with usage & old age. The inner frame has also been recently overpainted with paint touch ups to the outer frame.
