This magnificent STONEWARE JUG, which comfortably holds one and a half gallons of liquid, is intricately decorated with applied motifs, portraits and The ROYAL COAT OF ARMS. Probably made to commemorate the death of THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON in 1852, his portrait appears on one side of the JUG with the Monarch, a young QUEEN VICTORIA, on the other. Between them and beneath the lip is the ROYAL COAT OF ARMS.
The JUG has a particularly well-burnished glaze finish.
The condition is good. There is a small area of professional restoration to the rim which is shown in the close-up photograph.
