A beautiful and strong modernist oil by Lincoln Pugh Jenkins(1901-1988), an artist strongly influenced by Cubism. His later work, such as the present painting, dating from the 1960s, concentrated on sunlight and patterns.
Jenkins was born in Presteigne, attended Leicester College of Art and became a member of staff at Birmingham School of Art, 1925. In 1939, he moved to Harrogate, and this was presumably the beginning of his love affair with the Yorkshire countryside.
Jenkins exhibited at the RA, City Art Gallery in Leeds and elsewhere widely in the north of England.
