Carthorses Oil Painting After J.F.Herring

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine oil on canvas depicting carthorses in a farm setting after John Frederick Herring Junior. The composition is typical of Herring’s farmyard works and the quality of the work very high. The painting would have been made in the 1920’s as is indicated by the age of the Winsor and Newton canvas (name stencilled on the reverse) this would have been after Herring’s death. The piece has been signed for Herring and dated 1879 both on the front and back but this is erroneous and most likely simply copied from the original work. The whole is a great decorative oil painting in good untouched condition with some minor craquelure, and framed in what is probably the original early twentieth century gilt frame.

Overall sizes in inches including frame: 29 ½ by 23 ¾
