McTague of Harrogate has dated this Herbert Royle Landscape Painting to the 1920s.
He exhibited extensively at the Walker gallery, Liverpool, Manchester city art gallery, Royal Academy and at other Galleries and Exhibitions throughout the Country. From 1924 onwards he lived at the Manor House in the hamlet of Nesfield, near Ilkley, where he also had a studio on the hillside above the house. Some of his finest work was painted in this area around his home in Wharfedale.

"Hay Harvesting above the Wharfe" is a fine example. Measuring 20" x 30" it is signed lower left and is framed giving an overall size of 28" x 30". On the back is the remains of an old inscription giving the title.
