FAQs

Early 20th-century British watercolour painting was characterised by a strong focus on pastoral and rural scenes, continuing the tradition of the British watercolour school with an emphasis on atmospheric light and naturalistic detail.

These works typically utilise watercolour pigments applied to handmade rag paper or thick watercolour boards, often framed behind glass with traditional mount boards.

Authenticity is determined by examining paper ageing, watermark characteristics, pigment type, artist signature or attribution, and the condition of the framing materials.

An antique landscape painting adds warmth and historical depth when hung on a neutral wall or placed above a mantelpiece, often framed in a simple contemporary moulding to bridge traditional and modern aesthetics.

Watercolour paintings should be displayed away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and kept in stable environments with controlled humidity to protect the paper and pigments.
