A fine and interesting oil on canvas depicting a view of London and the Thames in an abstract manner, by Arthur Bell Foster 1900-1979. The painting is a wonderful abstract impression of London and the Thames with the buildings reflected in water. The technique focuses entirely on sunset colours and the shapes of the industrial city taken back to the simplest form. The work is an interesting and unusual piece for this artist who was mostly more traditional in style and is signed to the lower left. Arthur Bell Foster 1900-1979 was a landscape painter, designer, illustrator and teacher. He studied at the Sheffield School of Art 1924-29 and settled in Birmingham. He exhibited in the mid twentieth century at the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of painters in water colours, as well as in Birmingham.
