Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A canterbury is a specialised piece of mobile furniture designed with internal partitions to store sheet music or periodicals, typically featuring a small drawer in the base and castors.

Victorian craftsmen primarily utilised fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, walnut, and satinwood, combined with hand-cut brass castors and intricate pierced fretwork.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display hand-dovetailed drawer joints, period brass castors, genuine age patination, turned finials, and pierced scrollwork or spindles.

Position the piece beside an armchair or sofa to serve as an elegant magazine or book holder, bridging classic timber warmth with modern upholstered seating.

Maintain satinwood by dusting regularly with a soft cloth, applying a high-grade beeswax polish annually, and avoiding direct heat sources or strong sunlight.
