FAQs

Woodblock printing in Japan, known as ukiyo-e, flourished primarily during the Edo period from the 17th to the 19th century, depicting scenes of everyday life, landscapes, and kabuki actors.

These prints were traditionally produced using hand-carved cherry wood blocks, water-based pigments, and handmade mulberry bark paper, known as washi.

Authenticity is typically determined by examining the paper quality, visible wood grain impressions, hand-applied registration marks, traditional publisher seals, and artist signatures.

These works can be framed in simple, neutral mouldings using UV-filtering glass and displayed as a paired focal point on a neutral wall to highlight their historic craftsmanship.

Paper artworks must be kept away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent fading, foxing, and deterioration of the organic pigments.
