A George III stick barometer is a traditional meteorological instrument produced during the reign of King George III, featuring a vertical column of mercury encased in a wooden frame to measure atmospheric pressure.

These instruments typically utilise solid timbers such as mahogany, oak, or walnut for the case, combined with a glass barometer tube containing mercury, often complemented by an engraved brass or silvered dial plate.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-carved woodwork, the style of the engraved vernier scale, the type of glass tubing, and the presence of period-appropriate fixings and maker signatures.

Such pieces function well as vertical focal points in traditional or transitional spaces, mounted securely at eye level in hallways, studies, or libraries to highlight historical craftsmanship.

Preservation requires stable indoor humidity and temperature away from direct sunlight and heat sources, alongside careful handling by professionals when moving the instrument due to the mercury column.
