After The Storm, Benfleet, Oil Landscape By William George Robb
£475 $617 €572
A fine oil on panel landscape titled ‘After the storm, Benfleet’ by the artist William George Robb 1872-1940. A wonderful English Impressionist work that captures brilliantly in broad sweeping brushstrokes the feeling and view of the sun breaking through a passing storm. The painting is in excellent condition and signed ROBB to the lower right. William George Robb (1872-1940) was born in Ilfracombe, Devon. He studied at the Aberdeen School of Art and then under Bouguereau and Aman Jean in Paris. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, other leading London galleries, and at the Paris Salon. A one man show of his work was held at The Fine Art Society in 1920 in which this work was exhibited. He lived in London and died on the 5th August 1940. The painting is framed in an antique gilt frame with modern mounts, the frame is in good condition with gilt overpaint. The reverse of the painting contains various biographical sources of information for the artist as well as the original exhibition label for The Fine Art Society exhibition in 1920. This piece is a great example of English Impressionism with a huge amount of decorative appeal.
