Antique Longines silver niello pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner cover which is signed with the Longines name, and it has details of medals won at the Paris exhibition in 1900. The movement is also signed with the name of the previous owner, Etienne Delfino.

The watch measures 47mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is niello which is where a black mixture, usually sulphur, copper, silver, and lead, is used as an inlay on engraved or etched metal, especially silver, in this case 800 silver. It is added as a powder or paste, then fired until it melts or at least softens, and flows or is pushed into the engraved lines in the metal. The case is in good condition, just a little rubbing / niello loss mainly around the edge but not too detrimental.

The glass lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in very nice condition with original ornate pin-set hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
