Gents 9ct gold Visible wrist watch, 1944.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the name Visible, and it has the number 51589 which implies a brevet or patent number but there is no published record of such a patent.

In 1922, Arnold Bouverat-Jobin & les Fils registered the trademark ‘Visible’ in Switzerland. One of Bouverat’s four sons migrated to Birmingham and founded George Bouverat & Company. They were appointed the sole British agent for ‘Visible’ and ‘Lorea’ watches, and also sold watches manufactured by the brothers under the name of ‘Bernex’.

The watch measures 30mm wide excluding the winding crown and 30mm high excluding the lugs. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks inside the case back for Chester 1944 together with a case maker’s name of Stolkace and the initials GAS for George Arnold Stoll of the Elite Bracelet Manufacturing Co Ltd who registered the Stolkace name in 1934. The case is in lovely condition, as is the lens.

The dial is in its original finish. There is light marking but not too detrimental at all. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
