Gents antique silver trench watch, 1916.

The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel hand-winding movement, identified as by Manzoni Arogno, which is working nicely.

The watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and fixed wire lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case back for London (import mark), 1916, with a sponsor’s mark for George Stockwell.

From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.

The shrapnel guard on the front of the watch is stamped Brevet ? Dem M&Co which refers to an application for a patent that has not yet been granted, ie, Brevet Demandé. The front of the case is in good condition. The centre section has a small knock. The case back has very ornate initials, possibly reading AWW, together with the year 1918. There is some unevenness to the back of the watch.

The glass lens is in good condition.

The dial has three faint hairlines but difficult to see with the naked eye.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
