Antique Specimen Collectors Cabinet

19th century
Description

A good quality antique specimen cabinet dating from the late 19th / early 20th Century. The cabinet itself is made from pine with its original stained finish and it stands on a plinth base. It has 8 drawers, each with small turned wooden knobs.

The cabinet would have originally housed a collection of butterflies or insects or fossils and each drawer is paper lined. 6 of the 8 drawers also have their original sliding glass covers.

It is in good original condition and is certainly a very usable item. There are signs of age and use and it has picked up a few knocks, scuffs and marks over the years, particularly on the top surface, but nothing untoward and it has a good aged patina. It probably once had a door over the front and there are some small marks where hinges would have once been and have now been filled but it still displays well. There are some minor marks, stains and small holes in the paper linings in the drawers but in general the drawers are clean and tidy and they all open and close smoothly.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
