Antique Douard goliath pocket watch and chain.

The watch has stem-winding movement which carries the brevet, or patent, number 7032. This relates to an 1893 patent for 'new watch caliber with eight days of operation', with the inventor and applicant listed as Amedee Douard. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover. The movement is working nicely.

The watch measures 69mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel and it is in lovely condition, just general light surface marks but nothing too detrimental at all. The rose gold edging to the inner edge of the bezel is a handsome feature.

The thick glass lens is in good condition.

The dial is signed S Smith & Son, 9 Strand, WC (the type is a little faded). S Smith was one of the largest retailers of precision and technical pocket watches of the period. The dial is in lovely condition with original pin-set hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. It also has the wording, “Watchmakers to the Admiralty” over the sub seconds dial.

The watch comes with a Churchill style chain which is of perfect proportions for the watch. The chain measures 29cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.

The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.
