A lowboy is a small table with one or more drawers, originating in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, commonly used as a dressing table or side table in British and American homes.

These pieces were typically constructed from native hardwoods such as oak for the structural framing, elm or fruitwood for secondary surfaces, and incorporated brass hardware like drop handles.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional pegged mortise and tenon construction, natural timber shrinkage, and appropriate patination consistent with age and hand tools.

An antique lowboy serves as a versatile accent piece that can be placed in an entryway or living room, styled minimally with a ceramic lamp or a vintage mirror hung above.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping it away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight, and nourish the timber periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicon polishes.
