Vicky Thomas Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.

painted by J Shepherd in 1880, she's sat at her table enjoying a slug of whiskey for over 140 years surrounded by her most precious things - a cut glass bowl, a conch shell and painting of birds on the mantlepiece.

I have had the painting professionally cleaned by James Bloomfield Fine Art Restoration, and we have left her in the original frame. The frame has losses, and shows the signs of its age, but I found it fitting to keep it with the picture. The painting has crazing and the usual wear to be expected on a piece of this age, but as I hope that photographs show, she is a very handsome woman, and the picture has a real sense of character that will bring joy to any home.

The framed painting measures 35cm by 30 cm frames with the canvass measuring 20cm by 16cm.
