Louis Xvi 18th Century Mahogany Commode

18th century
Description

A desirable example of a French Louis XVI mahogany three drawer commode or chest of drawers, this has cockbeading to the side panels and to the drawer fronts. The tapered legs have brass caps at the base with fluted columns above and the marble top is grey with white veining. A quality piece of 18th century furniture, this has lasted for 250 years and continues to provide a functional and attractive storage solution.

Dating circa 1780, this is made of mahogany and marble, and originates from France.

In good age related condition. The marble has minor nibbles to the edges, but these are only noticeable by feel and there are no larger chips. The piece has been recently sympathetically restored and previous wear to the side panels is unobtrusive. There is a gap between the planks in the base of the middle drawer, but this does not affect function, particularly if a drawer liner is used. No key is available, but the locks are all in place.

Height – 86 cm

Width – 128 cm

Depth – 60 cm

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
